11-13 Week Old Rio Grande Wild Turkeys
Our 11-13 week old Rio Grande Wild Turkeys are fully developed juveniles nearing sub-adult status. At 3 months of age, these birds have spent their entire lives acclimating to the Texas climate on our ranch. They possess the full iridescent plumage, powerful wings, and sharp instincts characteristic of the Rio Grande strain. This is the premium choice for landowners who want 'instant impact' birds that are ready to integrate into the wild landscape immediately upon successful soft-release.
Why Choose 11-13 Week Old Birds?
- Elite Survivability: These birds have matured past all juvenile vulnerabilities. They are large, fast, and possess the 'wood smarts' to identify and avoid common threats.
- Master Flyers: At this age, they are highly proficient in flight. They can easily reach high roosting branches in Oaks and Cottonwoods, which is their primary defense against nocturnal predators.
- Established Social Structure: These birds have already established their 'peck order,' making them a cohesive unit that will work together to forage and protect the flock on your property.
- Ready for the Range: They are fully transitioned to adult-style foraging and are capable of covering significant ground to find food and water.
Management & Integration (3 Months +)
- Advanced Nutrition: Move to a 18-20% turkey finisher or maintenance feed. At this stage, supplemental feeding acts more as an 'anchor' to keep them on your property than a primary survival requirement.
- The Soft Release Goal: These birds should be transitioned into a large flight pen on your property for 2–4 weeks to imprint on the location before being given full range.
- Habitat Requirements: Ensure your property has a permanent water source and suitable 'roost trees' with horizontal branches and clear flight paths.
- Natural Foraging: They are now expert hunters of grasshoppers, cicadas, and small reptiles, providing top-tier natural pest management for your ranch.
Best Use Cases
- Strategic Repopulation: Ideal for establishing a breeding population that will be mature and ready for the following spring's nesting season.
- Conservation & Legacy: The best way to introduce high-quality, ranch-raised Rio Grande genetics into an area with low turkey density.
- Hunting Preserve Enhancement: Provides robust, wild-acting birds that maintain the challenge and beauty of a traditional wild turkey hunt.
- Superior Pest Control: Their increased size and energy make them incredibly effective at clearing tick and grasshopper populations
- Personal flocks and homesteads
Logistics & Expert Handling
- Professional Transport Required: Important: At 3 months old, these turkeys are powerful. They require heavy-duty, professional poultry crates for transport. Do not attempt to transport them in light cardboard boxes.
- Bulk Investment: We offer significant discounts for orders of 15 or more, allowing you to stock your property with a genetically diverse and socially stable flock.
- Personalized Texas Delivery: We offer specialized delivery within 100 miles of our Liberty Hill ranch, ensuring these high-value birds are handled with the care they deserve during transit.
