The Rio Grande wild turkey is an opportunistic forager that feeds on green foliage, insects, seeds from grasses and forbs, and mast (acorns and nuts). Annually, their diet consists of about 36% grasses, 29% insects, 19% mast, and 16% forbs. The individual plant species that a turkey uses as food varies by region and by season.

Incubation Period
- Days 1–25 This is the primary growth phase where the embryos develop.
- Temperature: Maintain a consistent 37.5°C (99.5°F) if using a forced-air incubator (with a fan). If you are using a still-air incubator, increase this slightly to 38.9°C (102°F), measured at the top of the eggs. Aim for 45% to 50% relative humidity
- Eggs must be turned at least 3 to 5 times per day to prevent the embryo from sticking to the shell
- Do not turn the eggs at all during the final three days
- Days 26–28 (Lockdown). Do not turn the eggs at all during the final three days. Drop the temperature slightly to 37.2°C (99°F). Increase humidity significantly to 65% to 70%. Resist the urge to open the incubator to check on progress
