1-2 Week Old Rio Grande Wild Turkeys

Our 1-2 week old Rio Grande Wild Turkeys are the perfect choice for those looking for 'started' poults. At this age, the birds have successfully navigated the critical first week of life, showing strong vigor and established feeding habits. Hatched and raised right here on our Texas ranch, these birds are genetically hard-wired for the local climate and terrain. They are feathered enough to be resilient, yet young enough to bond with their new environment.

Why Choose 1-2 Week Old Poults?

  • Past the 'First-Week' Hurdle: The highest mortality rate in turkeys occurs in the first 7 days. These birds are proven survivors.
  • Established Feeders: By 2 weeks, they have learned to aggressively seek out food and water, making their transition to your brooder much smoother.
  • Developing Wing Feathers: You will notice their primary feathers coming in—these birds are already starting to show the athletic, flighty nature of the Rio Grande strain
  • Native Texas Stock: These aren't hatchery birds; they are ranch-raised from our own breeding flock to ensure high-quality wild instincts.

Care Requirements (After Arrival)

  • Brooder Temperature: Maintain a warm area of 90-95°F for the first week, then drop it by 5 degrees as they approach the 2-week mark. Always provide enough space for them to move away from the heat if they get too warm.
  • Nutrition: Continue with a 30% protein game bird starter. High protein is non-negotiable at this stage to support rapid muscle and bone growth.
  • Space to Move: As they hit 2 weeks, they become much more active. Ensure your brooder has enough vertical space, as they will begin to jump and test their wings.
  • Cleanliness: Wild turkeys are susceptible to dampness. Keep bedding (pine shavings) dry and change water frequently to prevent respiratory or digestive issues.

Ideal Uses

  • Property Repopulation: Great for landowners wanting to establish a native flock with birds that are already 'hardened' to the environment.
  • Estate Management: These active foragers are excellent at patrolling acreage for ticks, grasshoppers, and other pests.
  • Conservation Projects: High-quality stock for those looking to preserve the native Rio Grande lineage in Texas.

Logistics & Safety

  • Minimum Order: Sold in batches of 10 or more to ensure the birds have a social flock to reduce stress.
  • Pickup/Delivery: Available for pickup at our Liberty Hill ranch or delivery within 100 miles
  • Transport Recommendation: Please bring a ventilated crate. At 1-2 weeks old, these birds can jump—ensure your transport container is fully secure to prevent escapes during the ride home.
  • Provide predator protection
